Are you looking for a sweet gift for a birth or do you want to make your baby happy? Then we have a nice and quick DIY project for you that you can easily sew: a crinkle cloth in the shape of a lion.
What is so special about crinkle cloths? They help little ones explore the world. Different textures and the gentle crinkle sound make the little lion face with mane the perfect gift for your child.
Material:
- our pattern (ready to print on A4)
- Cotton fabric 2 pieces each 15 x 15 cm
- Volume fleece 15 x 15 cm
- Crackling foil or roasting bag from the drugstore , 15 x 15 cm
- various woven ribbons
- Embroidery thread
- Fabric scissors
- Scissors
- sewing machine
- matching sewing thread
- Pins
- Pen that disappears when exposed to heat/ironing
1) After you have gathered the material, use the pattern to draw the shapes you need. Use an erasable gel pen to do this. Then cut out all the shapes so that you have two large circles and a forehead section. Cut the crackle foil and the volume fleece with a seam allowance.
2) Next, make holes in the foil. Use a normal pair of scissors to do this. Make sure that you only make holes inside the circle and that the seam allowance remains hole-free. This step is particularly important to prevent the risk of suffocation when playing with the crinkle cloth. You should also always make sure that you do not let your baby play unsupervised when playing with other toys.
3) Now neaten the edges of the cut-out circles. You can do this either with an overlock machine, in the zig-zag stitch on your normal sewing machine or with zig-zag scissors. You should also neaten the semicircle of the forehead brow.
4) Now it's time to embroider the forehead section onto one of the circles. Use embroidery thread for this. If you find it too thick, you can also divide it. Try to work with stitches that are as close together as possible.
5) Then draw the lion's eyes, nose and mouth using the heat-disappearing pen. Use your preliminary drawings as a guide and embroider the face with a backstitch.
6) Now it's time for the ribbons, which should be an interesting material for the little fingers. Cut strips about 10 cm long. Put each one in a loop and then on the lion's face as shown in the picture. To prevent the ribbons from slipping, you can sew them onto the lion's face.
7) Now we need to layer all the prepared pieces: Put the two cotton circles right sides together so that the good side of the unembroidered circle and the lion's face are on top of each other. Then put the foil underneath and finally the volume fleece. Staple everything together securely.
8) Now sew around in a circle, making sure to leave an opening for turning.
9) Now turn the crinkle cloth through the opening. Fold the open sides neatly and sew the hole closed by hand with a ladder stitch.
The cute crinkle cloth is ready! You can give it as a gift for a birth or christening. Of course, you can create other shapes so that you can sew yourself a whole crinkle cloth zoo. Just let your creativity run wild.
